Organ Motion is Prevalent, Variable, and Unpredictable Organ motion is prevalent, variable, and unpredictable during radiation therapy, and therefore presents challenges to delivering precise external beam radiation to the prostate. A multi-institutional study showed that patients experienced organ motion during treatment fractions and the direction and degree of the motion is highly variable from patient to patient and day to day. The Calypso® System provides clinicians with accurate, precise, real-time tumor tracking without the use of additional ionizing radiation. Because patient setup uses objective parameters, it is quick and efficient and eliminates the subjectivity inherent in image-based methods. |

Objective prostate location information is displayed in an intuitive graphical format, facilitating rapid interpretation of prostate movement on the lateral, longitudinal and vertical axes. Motion of more than one cm occurred twice during the single fraction displayed to the left. |
The Calypso System is the first and only target localization method that is continuous, real-time, objective, highly accurate, and does not require ionizing radiation for treatment setup. Providing safe, accurate and effective localization, the Calypso System has been cleared by the FDA for treatment setup and monitoring the position of the prostate and prostatic bed during radiation therapy.

At the heart of the Calypso System's technology are three implantable Beacon® transponders - each transmits a unique non-ionizing radiofrequency signal to the electromagnetic array, generating position and motion information about the target. |
Simple and Efficient Outpatient Implantation Procedure
The implantation of the Beacon electromagnetic transponders is a simple and efficient outpatient procedure. Three Beacon transponders are implanted in the prostate similar to gold marker implantation. This implantation procedure has established CPT® codes. The Calypso System works with the implanted Beacon electromagnetic transponders to provide continuous, real-time objective tracking, allowing therapy delivery to be managed more effectively.
